RI Board of Elections calls in State
Police
Evidence of Election Fraud Apparent, Hearing continued.
(Providence, Rhode Island, USA) The Board of Elections has referred several specific instances and evidence of fraud to the State Police, while they continued the hearing on Wilbur W. Jennings complaint in the Ward 8 City Council race to next Wednesday, September 27th.
In front of a standing room only crowd, Jennings Attorney Keven M. McKenna questioned a number of witnesses. Of these, Vue Xiong of Netop Street asserted that he had voted by mail ballot, but his vote was never recorded. His ballot had been picked up by a worker for another campaign.
Eulogio and Maryelyn Acevedo and Laura Perez testified concerning things they had personally witnessed ranging from ballot fraud to impersonation. They were commended by the board for coming forward to expose these improprieties and their information would be forwarded to the State Police. This is not another Florida, declared board member Frank J. Rego. We take the rights of voters very seriously and we are very concerned here, affirmed Thomas V. Ianitti as acting chairman.
Jennings actions are now openly supported by two of his former opponents, Eulogio Acevedo and Alex Moore both of whom were at the hearing. This unity between opponents is primarily the work of the newly formed Ward 8 Neighborhood Action Committee composed of voters with a common cause to preserve their independence from Mayor David Cicillines questionable tactics and his chosen outsider candidate. Also present at the hearing were Ward 9 Councilman Miguel Luna and Pedro J. Espinal, the Providence Businessman who was bested by incumbent Luis Aponte for the ward 10 Council seat.
In an unrelated preliminary matter, the Board levied a $7,071 fine and one year probation against the ward 8 primary winner, Leon J. Tajeda, for ongoing violations in filing his campaign finance reports.
The next meeting of the Ward 8 Neighborhood Action Committee will be tomorrow evening at 17 Wildwood Street.
