WARD 8 VOTERS VIE FOR NEW ELECTION
Jennings Motions to be Heard Today

(8th Ward, Providence, RI, USA)  Hopes are high for a new election in the Ward 8 City Council race after Attorney Keven A. McKenna filed motions with the State Board of Elections on behalf of Wilbur W. Jennings Jr. to be heard today.

Members of the Ward 8 Neighborhood Action Committee began walking the ward yesterday, putting up flyers and telling people about the hearing and the possibility to
“right a wrong that never should have happened” and to “Send the Mayor back to City Hall.”

Hopes in the group soared after Attorney McKenna filed two motions for a new election due to “Ballot Stuffing” and a “Failure to count Provisional Ballots” which will be heard Wednesday at 4pm.  According to McKenna, the Providence Canvassers post-election audit shows that the number of votes cast is 24 more than the number of people who voted, and the number of ballots disqualified due to administrative errors is another 31.

“In Burns v. Griffin” McKenna explained yesterday,  “It was held that a new election is required if the votes lost because of administrative errors are greater than the margin in the election.  This is because due process protects a citizen's right to have his or her votes counted.”

McKenna voiced hopes to the group that the RI Board of Elections would order a new election which would also resolve the many instances reported of fraud and wrongdoing reported and associated with this particular election.

The Board will meet tonight at 4pm at 50 Branch Avenue, Providence, RI.
