Canadian Film Arthurs Paradise to Premier Today
(Providence , Rhode Island , USA ) 'Arthur's Paradise' the Canadian film whose only dialogue is the universal language of music will have its United States Premiere upstairs in the Columbus Theater, 270 Broadway, Providence TODAY at 2:00 pm.
This Canadian films touted musical dialogue has piqued the curiosity of local filmmakers at this years Rhode Island International Film Festival and a large turnout is expected, although screening time is on a weekday afternoon.
Arthurs Paradise / Le Paradis dArthur premiered at the Visions du Réel film festival and screening in Montreal where critics called it a documentary, a fiction, and even a UFO movie.
Academy Award-winning veteran filmmaker Frederique Back summed it up as, " a tour de force of imagination and work."
The 50 minute film starts as a visual documentary of a farmers routine life on a pig farm in Quebec , completely in harmony with the music he plays of opera singer Victoria Rossellini on an old 33 record piped into the barn. But when the record disappears, all that changes into a surrealistic fantasy as the pigs go on a hunger strike, chickens cluck out catastrophic warnings and the farmer frantically tries to restore harmony by playing other music including opera, a disco celebrity, and even an entire mariachi band chasing him around the barn. Order is finally restored to the farm by a visitation from the Virgin Mary.
The film was made in collaboration with the Canadian National Film Board (NFB) also known as the Office National Du Film Du Canada (ONF), whose mandate is to produce and distribute culturally diverse, challenging and relevant audiovisual works that provide Canada and the world with a unique Canadian perspective. The film was written, directed, produced and financed by award winning producer Luc Beauchamp and is independently distributed by Netima in Canada .
Filmmaker Luc Beauchamp and his Associate Producer Denis McCready came to Providence for the premier and plan on doing a series of interviews.
